CSV Import Errors and How to Fix Them

Common errors when importing historical transaction data from CSV and how to resolve each one.

Invalid date format

MoniePilot accepts ISO dates (2024-01-15), US format (01/15/2024), and European format (15/01/2024). If your dates use a different format, convert them in your spreadsheet before exporting to CSV.

Invalid amount

Amounts must be numeric. Currency symbols and commas are stripped automatically. If you still see errors, check for text like "N/A" or blank cells in the amount column.

Unrecognised transaction type

If you map a type column, accepted values are: sale, income, credit, or cr for income; expense, cost, debit, dr, or payment for expenses. Alternatively enable "Infer type from sign" to use positive/negative amounts instead.

Downloading the error CSV

After import, click "Download errors" to get a CSV of rejected rows with a reason column. Fix the issues in your spreadsheet and re-import only the corrected rows to avoid duplicates.
